She was born in 1966 in Oviedo, Spain. She received her MSc Degree in Mining Engineering after graduating from Oviedo University in 1993. She obtained her PhD from the department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at Oviedo University in 1997. She got the PhD Thesis Prize awarded by Oviedo University 1996-1997.
In 1997 she worked in the research department of the Technological Institute of Materials in Asturias (Spain) -ITMA- as postdoctoral fellow. In 1998 she joined the Vigo University as Assistant Professor to the Department of Materials Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Construction.
In 2003, she became Senior Lecturer of that Department at Vigo University. She was a Visitant Researcher at the Department of Materials- Sheffield University- and CNRS in Paris and she was also Visitant Lecturer at Piura University (Peru) and the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical (FIME) Engineering of the University of Nuevo Leon (Mexico).
Her research interests are focused on microstructural characterization of materials and the relationship between the microstructure, the manufacturing process, and the mechanical and surface properties.
